I still think Asgard is a stand in for the USA and more generally white colonisation. Where do you think all this wealth came from? Maybe some of it was fairly obtained, but most of it was gained by stealing land through genocide.

Captain Marvel's simplest twist to Carol Danvers' origin story is its smartest choice. (Fair warning: it's a Gizmodo article, so don't know how it will turn out for others, but Gizmodo sites tend to hate me...)

Also, reading through a brief history of Agents of SHIELD and it appears that they've gone down a completely different trouser leg of time. COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

It makes my head hurt just reading all this.

So, good thing I watched this in order, or I'd definitely be WTF.

2.07 - it's that easy? )

Thought: this is really turning into a major arc show. In a discussion with a friend the other week, he observed that AoS is going to be one of those shows where the first season is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT to the other seasons - and certainly S2 is a series of arcs, overlapping and intertwined.

2.08 - #itsallconnected )

You know, this is turning out a bit like BSG. I can't watch too many episodes at once, because it's kind of emotionally draining.

More political manoeuvring. Sometimes this show reads as much of a political thriller as an action-adventure-drama show.

Who's playing whom? )

Looking back, that was a lot of ranting about plot points that Didn't Quite Make Sense. But overall, I enjoyed that episode.

okay, so, you know how I said it hadn't hooked me?

Consider me hooked.

too much conversation and a great deal of action )

I would watch the next episode, but I don't have it on the disk and I am presently immured by a cat snoozing/purring in my lap.

May likes to party, and by 'party' we mean 'fight' )

Still good writing, good character interactions. They're squeezing a lot more in, but they're doing pretty well at it so far.

It still hasn't hooked me. I'm watching because I need to have a grip on the characters for fic purposes, but I'm not so invested in the characters or the storyline. Not yet, anyway.

Still going, albeit slowly.

Shiny Happy Jemma in the lab! )

I was going to watch another episode this morning, but sewing and trimming and fussing and discussion of the local state election took over, and now I have to do some gardening before it gets too late.

Another good episode, although not as good as 2.01, I think.

learning people by inches )

So, next episode: the return of Jemma and the introduction of Bobbi? Looking forward to it. Just not tonight. It's late and I have a big day tomorrow.

Finally got back on the horse. Exactly how long I stay on it? Another matter.

2.01 - Shadows )

An excellent start to the season, even with the necessary infodumps and Coulson's Statement Of Purpose at the end of the episode.

So, I have my MCU Ladies assignment in and I'm looking at treats. And all the bunnies are coming up epic. (No, brain. NO.)

I should try writing some short treats. Emphasis on short.

I finished 'No Fate' (the soulmates fic) which I've been trying to write for, oh, a month. I have 'Duncker's Candle' which has been waiting for, oh, nine months.

And I have the Maria Hill epic from HELL.

--

SHEEEESH AGENTS OF SHIELD COMES BACK THIS TUESDAY AND I HAVEN'T EVEN WATCHED S2.0

I guess I just hate watching things as serials; too much angst and emotional investment.

I don't suppose there'd be anyone available to chat-watch Agents of SHIELD S2.0 with me in about 12 hours (4am Eastern US time)? *sigh* I want someone to burble with, because that's always more fun and if I do that, it's harder for me to get distracted and walk away.

--

I have assorted quilting projects that REALLY need finishing, not least of which are two handmade gifts that are for January and February and which I have NOT EVEN TOUCHED. Too scared to get it wrong, which is so much stupid, I don't even have the words for it.

--

Work: as of next week, I will be commuting by train one of two ways.

There's the way which involves changing trains twice, but is shorter overall (45 mins).

And there's the way which involves changing trains only once, but which gives me a good 45 minutes of writing time from when I get on to when I get off...

Maybe I'll go the long way in the morning and the short way in the afternoon? I could write on the way to work, and handsew on the way home?

And, once again, I'm reminded of why I should keep up with the good shows.

ALL DER BUNNIES. Except they've already been jossed by S2.0 (no doubt).

Now, I have three weeks in which to actually watch S2.0 - which is going to be a bit more tricky on account of needing to actually pay attention to the screen instead of just listening.

So many things to do. SO LITTLE TIME.

But I have finished a fic that will do nicely for my MCU Ladies Ficathon. I'll save Maria Hill: Epic Of DOOM for [livejournal.com profile] heroinebigbang. Unless I finish it before the MCU Ladies Ficathon comes due, at which point, I'll gift it to everyone who's mentioned one of the major characters in it...

I don't think I have previous reviews of these eps on my journals. And I can't find 1.01 on this computer, so we're going in without the first episode.

In the home stretch! I'll be able to look at my tumblr again and click on the Maria Hill tag!

1.19 - The Only Light In The Darkness )

--

And, forthwith: to the Maria Hill episode!

There is so much in this episode. A crazy number of layers and characterisations and breaks and, oh, whoever wrote this was BRILLIANT.

1.20 - Nothing Personal )

Speculation and random bunnies )

Anyway, that was some excellent television. And the most engrossed I've been in a TV series for years.

Well played, Whedons. Well played.

1.17 Turn Turn Turn )

1.18 - Providence )

all hail the ficbunnies, they are the ones we all say hail to! )

Okay, nearly midnight. (Good gosh, the night just kind of vanished.)

Now I lay me down to sleep.
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If Joss Whedon makes Maria Hill HYDRA or evil or a bitch
I pray that demons come and take him to the special hell with child molesters and people who talk at the theatre...

So, this is the episode stretch where I actually started getting invested in the characters. At this point, I'd actually have watched the episodes without Cap 2 inspiration. I felt the characters were developing more fully, everyone was becoming more focused, and the stories were getting tighter and holding together from episode to episode. Plus, they're starting to pull together as a team, which always works for me.

Oh, and setting up The Clairvoyant as an enemy has become a fascinating touch.

--

Small disclaimer: I've been spoiled for certain post-Cap2 aspects of the AoS via tumblr, so some of my questions and thoughts are going to reflect that.

1.11 - The Magical Place )

1.12 - Seeds )

1.13 - T.R.A.C.K.S. )

1.14 - T.A.H.I.T.I. )

--

tl;dr: slow start, but now I'm very much enjoying this show - all the huzzah!

So. I can watch 1.15 - Yes Men now or I can leave off until tomorrow... It would be so easy to leave off until tomorrow...
