Various people got involved in the "Create your own challenge" idea from [profile] snowflakecomm and I'm going to put their answers here in a single post.

From [personal profile] barbaratp: Desafio Cinéfilo de Plantão: liste ao menos 3 filmes que você gosta e 2 que não, em ordem decrescente. Explique ao menos em poucas palavras porque o 5 é seu favorito e o número 1 não.

(translation: Movie Buff Challenge: list at least 3 movies you like and 2 you don't, in descending order. Explain at least in a few words why 5 is your favorite and number 1 is not.)

From [personal profile] switchbladeeyes: What is a fanwork you'd like to see? Maybe it's something you've dabbled with. Or you've thought about it, but are coming up blank. Or it's a medium you enjoy seeing but don't personally create with. Make a post in your journal about a fanwork you'd enjoy seeing. For all you know, someone may create it, know where to find it, or chat with you about their thoughts on the idea.

an epic action-adventure with relationship development )

--

From [profile] authorbynight: Talk about a remake, prequel or sequel you'd actually like to see. This can be anything from musicals, movies, books.

a variety of things )

--

[personal profile] gingicat asked: What would you take on a three-month trip where you'd be essentially alone and out of touch? Assume that you'd have your personal favorite climate, all the conveniences that would make this fun but not onerous, but no electronics except for indoor climate control panels, household appliance control panels, and assistive and medical devices.

You can bring people with you - who would you bring? Are there any that you wouldn't bring with you but would want to have on a contact-exception list?

Answer in comments or in your own space, as you prefer.

my answer is kind of complex )

And there is, of course, my own challenge: If you had to transpose one of your fandoms into another form of media, what media would you turn it into, and how would the story change? Would the story change?

Chalenge #14: In your own space, create your own fandom challenge

If you had to transpose one of your fandoms into another form of media, what media would you turn it into, and how would the story change? Would the story change?

(Note for properties which have mutliple tie-in shows and comics and books, or characters that float through various properties in that universe, feel free to switch them from movie to TV series, or take a character known from a TV series and give them their own movie.)

Create it in your own space, and link to it here, or to post it below.

Challenge #7 In your own space, create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a wishlist of sorts.

1. An epic MCU Maria/Steve fic that I didn't have to write myself. Any scenario, any situation, it's just got to have a happy ending.

2. Actually, right now, any fic for my favourite pairings that I didn't have to write myself!

3. Comments/kudos for my fics.

Shoot for the moon, right?

Challenge #6: Share your favourite piece of original canon.

Look, it's never not going to be this scene from The Winter Soldier.

Anyone who knows me knows what's coming:

Maria Hill, saving Cap, the Widow, and the Falcon on a day when they're one television crew away from public execution with nothing more than a stun wand, a laser cutter, and a badly-fitting helmet.

Every time.

Since this is the start of a new year, this challenge will be e to set your own goals! Of course we can all make large or ambitious goals, remember that small and/or short goals are also good!

Updated my profile/bio in DW. Probably should do so on other platforms. I've stopped using X at all. Insta/FB are my RL/"public profile" although technically it's a hop, skip and jump over to my fannish life. My personal life is now over on Threads, I do have BlueSky and Mastodon, but I hardly go on those. Mastodon seems the least likely to get taken over by techbros, which has to be a major consideration in these times, but I just don't have the networks right now.

I haven't really gotten fannish about anything this year. Too much other stuff taking my energy - job changes, the biology stuff (mirena, then hysterectomy), the state of the world - but also there's been no new material about the properties and characters that I'm fannish about. And even if new material is released, I'm not into it...

I participate some years, and not others. We'll see how this one goes, but if you're interested in a bit of fannish interaction, this is fun!

My [community profile] yuletide recipient commented, and it is all good!

I did have a fic written for me that ended up corralled due to not being finished, although it's apparently going to be revealed on the 1st January anyway? I don't know how that works. I hope whoever created it (and presumably hasn't been able to come back to it) is doing okay, though.

Challenge #15 Fandom Snowflake Challenge's 2023 Fandom Wrapped!

Your top 5 fandoms for 2023 were: according to the works I produced: Bridgerton (TV), MCU, Stargate SG1, and Stargate Atlantis, and 90s fantasy series (McCaffrey, Pratchett, Rawn).
Your top 5 fandom spaces in 2023 were: Dreamwidth, AO3, Discord, Twitter. (Didn't do well on Mastodon, haven't gotten the hang of Bluesky, and Threads is for Srs Discourse.)
The top 5 things you did to contribute to fandom in 2023 were: Write fix-its, I guess! Years too late for most, but still.
Your top 5 most appreciated fandom contributions were: Assorted WIPs for MCU and Bridgerton, a couple of humourous one-shots for Bridgerton, the memorial ficathon for [personal profile] crazy4orcas (even if I was the fannish-and-pairing red-headed bastard child in the room), and probably the final fix-it fic in the MCU: Steve/Maria series I started back in 2012...

Bonus questions:
Your fandom personality in 2023 was: Virago and Eeyore, by turns. Furiously angry and sad/despondent by turns.
In 2023, you discovered: not sure I discovered anything new? I guess I realised just how disposable my faves are. :(
Your fandom home in 2023 was: AO3 almost certainly. Just quietly chugging along, posting fics, chatting with a few people (although I do miss the days of comment interaction a la LiveJournal). A little bit of DW, but the fannish side of things was very contained; most people on DW seem to be more about the 'everyday life' thing.

Challenge #10

Five Things! The five things are totally up to you. Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Five types of fusion AU that I've written: Black Jewels, Pacific Rim/Jaegers, Psy-Changeling, Wizards and Muggles, Stargate.

Five hobbies of mine: writing, gardening, cooking, quilting, reading.

My five current fictional favourites: Maria Hill (MCU), Mako Mori (Pacific Rim), Teyla Emmagan (SGA), Faith Lehane (Buffyverse), Sam Carter (SG1).

Five things I'm growing in my garden: tomatoes, corn, pumpkins, silverbeet, basil.

All my fics tagged with "Five Times..." (and a couple extras in there).

Five cities I visited in the last year: Hong Kong, Amsterdam, London, Seattle, Portland.

The last five fandoms I wrote: Bridgerton (TV), Avengers, Exiles - Melanie Rawn, Stargate SG1, Pacific Rim.

I thought I'd just do a random and fandom assortment of fives. If you have any further fives of mine you'd like to know, ask away in the comments!

Maria Hill was integral to the connection of the Avengers to broader world security. When she left, in the time between Age of Ultron and Civil War, her absence and the loss of her pragmatism resulted in World Security continuing to run on automatic for a bit but the wheels eventually falling off.

(I waver between her absence being due to personal illness, Fury made demands of her time, or the Avengers simply didn't bother to keep the relationship going, thinking they could do it themselves. Or possibly a combination of all three factors.)

"If you build it, they will come."

We've all heard it at some point. Many of us have given this wisdom to someone who said "there's nothing in the bit of fandom that I want to see grow!" and thought nothing of it.

As someone who's pretty much made a name for herself in fandom by writing the less-popular characters and pairings, I can tell you that while the basic premise is true, the implicit ongoing implications are a lie.

what we've been told vs. what actually happens )
