I have had plans (and partial stories) for profic for the last ten years. I've never finished a manuscript yet.

Part of it is distraction. Such shiny fandoms! Instant feedback! Ooh, shiny!

And part of it is the struggle I have with the idea that anyone would read something I invented myself, let alone pay for it.

Oh, have you tried short stuff, like writing a short story, before jumping straight to a novel? Maybe that could help with your sense of accomplishment...

Well, at least one of my profic stories has been running on ten years now, so...

I guess I have a friend who's only published the idea she's been working on for the last 20 years in the last two, so...

But she's writing a lot. As in, every day, profic. I'm...not.

I mean, I love fanfic and all, but I've limited myself to maybe two or three small ficathons and stories a year, despite a burning desire to be Ms. Prolific and to get that lovely feedback from fanfic, but it's really hard to give that up.

I wish we lived closer to each other, or maybe that transporters had been invented yet, because I would love to be in an original fic writing group with you - and I suspect at least one of my in-person writing group members (we're on hold now, sadly) would also get along with you really well.
