Thinking about holidays next year: a bunch of old friends are meeting in Disneyland, and I'd kinda like to go. It does depend on who wins the US Election later this year.
A couple of Republican friends, W and H, appear to be making 'overtures' towards reconciliation after the last eight years. So far as I know, they were Never Trumpers, but also very hard-R.
I doubt they approve of any point of Democratic economic policy or anything that might be "government control". I'm reasonably sure they're progressive on abortion and women's rights, but probably not so much on queer rights. And aso, she applied to join a group 'Daughters of the Revolution' which I understand is a very conservative women's group, so...
The 'reconciliaton' at this point appears to be talking on a very progressive blue guy's FB. The reason I think it's reconciliation (and I could be wrong) and not an attempt to convert or argue, is because they know exactly where everyone else in the group sits politically, and it is typically a long way from where they do. I don't think anyone has spoken to them directly about politics in, oh, eight years now. I have edged around it, but also: typically when it got to politics, I got unAmerican privilege to go places that the others maybe didn't because "that's different".
And there's Disneyland planned for 2025. If they want to come along and be included in the group (actually included, not just tolerated) then they're going to have to build bridges. Exactly where this is going to go - if it goes anywhere? I have no idea.
Anyway, regarding the holiday: there are some segments that I could book anyway: Asia, Europe, Canada (perhaps)?
The things I really want to do though are two tours: one in Tuscany, one on the Amalfi coast, both in September. The question right now is cost and putting down a deposit. And also how the health goes after the surgery in September.
It's getting near, I'm kind of nervous.
