"Which could mean anything," I'd grumbled to John Hugonin that afternoon when I went in to report the week to him. As the current agent to whom I was reporting - and the first one who could make the decision about whether I could graduate to full agent - he was encouraging me to report the things that I'd been looking at through in my week. At the same time, he was also willing to tell me about the things that he had on his plate which I had the clearance to look at. Moreover, unlike some agents, he asked me to give my thoughts on the situation, what I thought we were looking at, what I thought Crossover should do.
He'd sat back in his office chair, hunching his shoulders a little as he set his elbows on the armrests. "A good Crossover Agent has connections in as many places as possible," he said. "Not just in Crossover, but in other organisations, in companies, and even in governments where possible. We're not limited to any one country or box of alphabet soup, because sooner or later, a good agent will have to deal with all of them."
