Conflicted Allegiance
A US Christian reflecting on the Pledge of Allegiance, and on Christianity and politics. It's aimed at a US audience, but I feel this works for Australia, too.

I strongly value the separation of Church and State here in the US. I realize I'm not as consistent with this as I should be, because I'm willing to say "under God" in our Pledge of Allegiance (although I won't fault someone for leaving that bit out) but I won't sing patriotic songs in Church (which is sometimes done on weekends nearest patriotic holidays) and feel the Church has no business telling people how to vote.
One thing I hate is how much Trump has the support of evangelical voters. Like, HOW can they support a guy who's been divorced twice, has probably committed adultery, does NOT welcome the stranger, does NOT love his neighbour, etc? I appreciate the handful of people who recognize that he is NOT representing the life that Jesus would want us to follow.
