You know how I feel about this character! :D
I love Mako, as much for being a major Asian female character in a blockbuster action movie as for being courteous and polite and reserved on top, and absofuckinglutely fuming furious about everything under the surface! I wanted so much more of her. *sigh*
All the people I ship romantically with this character:
Mako/Raleigh, definitely. Raleigh/Mako/Chuck in an arranged threesome occasionally.
My non-romantic OTP for this character:
Hm, I imagine Mako and Tendo being excellent friends together, particularly with Tendo taking on the role of the older brother/young uncle.
My unpopular opinion about this character:
I don't think I have an unpopular opinion about her, but then, my exposure beyond the circle of Mako-fans is pretty small. Oh, wait, she could 100% kick Chuck's ass. That'll piss off the Chuckleheads.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:
She'd survived Uprising? I wish we'd gotten to see more of her, follow her journey pulling everything together. I think that was what was missing from the first movie: the character continuity. I mean, sure, Newt and Hermann, but...they're the comic relief, not the gravitas. To really anchor 'Uprising' they needed one of the original 'serious' characters to be in there, doing their thing. And without that, it was a great CGI action movie, but the heart and charm of the first wasn't there.

my cross over ship:
Don't think I have one. I mean, I've written the MCU fusion into the Pacific Rim universe, but Mako's still a teenager during that period and I can't imagine her with any of the MCU characters...
a headcanon fact:
Mako and Raleigh took a year off after the Battle of the Breach, hiding out from the fame and adulation, until they absolutely had to be dragged back. Raleigh decided he wasn't going back into the PPDC as a Marshal or anything 'big and public', so he went to get a construction ticket instead and was part of the Shatterdome redevelopment program. And Mako survived the helicopter crash, but they kept it quiet because they can't hunt you down if they think you're dead.
